The anime is full of things that aren’t considered canon. West Kai (mentor) Maraikoh (comrade) Tapkar (comrade) … Also naruto had too many fillers and now with Boruto the next generation, it gets worse and gets even too many fillers while dragon ball super actually gets way better. Though Dragon Ball Z is one of the most popular animes of all time, Naruto has a much stronger story and better lead characters. Dragon Ball Super actually finds a strong sense of humor and while Dragon Ball Z has its moments in filler episodes, it can’t compare to the original.

Is original Dragon Ball better than Z?ĭragon Ball Z isn’t bereft of humor, but many of the jokes land better in the original series and it juxtaposes against the action in a way that has more impact. The Big Three was a term used to describe the three most popular running series during their golden age in Jump’s mid 2000s period – One Piece, Naruto and Bleach. The Big Three refers to three very long and very popular anime, Naruto, Bleach and One Piece. This was meant for the ending of the Dragon Ball series altogether. What does the Z stand for in Dragon Ball Z? Is DBZ Kai better?ĭragon Ball Z will always have the upper hand when it comes to nostalgia, offering a more relatable (yet warped) westernized version of the legendary Japanese show, while Dragon Ball Z Kai gets to the point faster, keeps the original script, and the quality is slightly better. Kai primarily consists of retouched scenes from DBZ, with a few new scenes added in. Unlike Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood or the Berserk show, DragonBall Z Kai is a revision of DBZ and not a remake. … Most famously, Goku was inadvertently wished back into a child and forced to remain that way for the entire series. The series picks up five years after the end of Dragon Ball Z to reintroduce characters who have changed in unexpected ways. Objectively speaking, Dragon Ball GT is subpar at its best. Super focuses way too much on Goku all the time while in Z they made better use of the other characters. Z wins in character development, hype fights, saga structure, badass villains and for giving importance to characters other than just Goku. Start with the manga, Dragon Ball Volume 1. If you want to know the main-cast’s back stories and how they became so strong you should definetly watch Dragon Ball, but if you don’t care about you can skip it. I’d recommend starting with Dragon Ball, but you won’t be really be confued if you just start with Z. Kai is more faithful to the manga than the original anime was. Some (like myself) enjoyed the filler, while others thought it to be extra fluff. Secondly, the main difference is that Kai lacks the filler content of the original Dragon Ball Z, and stops at the end of the Cell saga. So they decided to skip over Dragon Ball and start off with Z. Toei wanted Kai to have fewer detours than the original DBZ and to complete its sagas faster. One of Toei’s gaols with DBZ Kai was creating a more expedient show. Dragon Ball Z is the better series overall, but Super does outdo it every now and then. This was the second anime dedicated to adapting one of the greatest battle manga of all time- and while messy, it did do a pretty good job all around. That said, there’s really no denying the sheer quality of Dragon Ball Z.

What’s better Z or Kai?Īn improved script, better voice acting, the removal of filler & stretched-out scenes, and better visuals all combine to make Dragon Ball Kai feel more professional and enthralling to watch, as opposed to the original version. Add to that the excellent soundtrack, and you can see why we recommend it before watching Dragon Ball Kai.
